Für dieses Review haben wir unseren Freund Cristhyano, gebürtiger Brasilianer, von den Londoner old school Deathern DECREPID als Gastschreiber gewinnen können. Also lest hier wie das Album in England/Brasilien aufgenommen wird…

The Dead - Deathsteps to Oblivion

Being one of my favorite genres, death/doom bands come across quite hard to review without being suspiciously in favor of it or over critical, with that said, I will try to keep the balance. The Dead originally comes from Brisbane Australia, not known as a notorious ground for spawning death metal bands.
Deathsteps to Oblivion is The Dead's third full length album released by their current label Transcending Obscurity. The album has 5 songs, each of them relatively lengthy but not in a negative way, just usual for this kind of style.
The record sounds from top to end like a dead rotting corpse being dragged along, you can literally feel the stench of it, it has a dark atmosphere. The sludgy riffs seem to flow nice together, some of them being quite catchy and you can feel that it could carry on forever.
The album is not all slow throughout, the band explore some very few fast paces, which I personally think, it doesn't fit extremely well with their music, on the other hand, it features also some black metal moods with dark depressing solos that feel just very right. The percussion used a few times also adds as a plus to the whole experience.
Overall the band succeed to deliver the message, which you might guess, it is not a pretty one. The cover art can give a rough idea of what is hidden inside this album.
The Dead won't disappoint the lover of this kind of style, it has all the elements needed to please fans of it and maybe fans of a slight different death metal taste, as their influences come from all over the place, but not for those who appreciate speed or technicality.
So give it a go and judge for yourself, I strongly believe you wont regret it. It seems The Dead have risen once again to torment your retched soul.
