I personally don't get to review many Russian bands, then I stumbled across Pyre,death metal new comers releasing their debut album entitled Human Hecatomb. Reading band promos now days one has to be skeptical due the amount of bands comparing their music to bigger bands, Pyre, on that matter, is no different, the actual difference is on their music, once you start to listen to this Russian tank assault your ears can not have enough of it.
Old School death metal as its best, crunching riffs, catchy melodies, dark moods, filth as fuck. The album containing 9 songs and is just over 40 minutes long and very uncompromising, the influences of the Swedish old school death are quite obvious, but not as a copy but as reference, it sounds heavy but each and every song has a different feel, an individual element to it, not like loads of other bands that all songs sound the same, the blend of fast and slow are really well built and make this album a pleasant nasty experience, if that makes any sense, it flows like a putrid river of dead souls. Pyre debut album came across quite impressive for their first effort, the album artwork is simple but effective and it gives the listener a clear message what Pyre is all about, no trends, no bullshit, only old school metal, so you won't be deceived by looks here, it is worth mentioning once again that this is their first effort, the only question is, are they going to keep the memento going? Only time will tell, but, for the time being, Human Hecatomb will certainly please the old school fans, have a listen to it and judge for yourself. Not for for Brutal / Technical death metal fans. Asphix, Dismember and even Venom come across to mind when listening to Human Hecatomb.
