Der Markt ist voll von Bands, die innovativ und "progressiv" sein wollen. Auch der Death Metal der frühen Neunziger hat den Metal seinerzeit hinsichtlich Extreme revolutioniert. Und es sind genau die Klassiker des Genres, die den Großteil der heutigen "Verschlimmbesserer" immer noch aufrauchen. Natürlich sind technische Versiertheit und maximierter Härtegrad oft eine tolle Sache,aber das Wichtigste ist das Feeling. Der Spirit, der den Death Metal von damals auszeichnet. Bands wie MORBID ANGEL, BRUTALITY, DEICIDE oder auch SINISTER. In exakt diese Kerbe haut der Sound von DEROGATORY auf deren Debüt - Album "Above All Else".
Mit DEROGATORY hat FDA REKOTZ einmal mehr eine sehr vielversprechende Band im Programm, wenn es um gut gespielten, stets schön brutalen Old School Death Metal amerikanischer Prägung geht. Schon das Intro läßt mit seinen Akustikklampfen glorreiche Zeiten wieder aufleben. Nach dieser Minute des "Vorspiels" geht's gleich straight vorwärts. Etwas mehr wie eine halbe Stunde wird anständig geballert, ein paar Schnörkel wie melodische Gitarrensoli gibt es ebenfalls, bevor das Album dann eben so erhaben ausklingt wie es begonnen hat... und ich den "Play" - Knopf erneut drücke.
Der Sound der Band erinnert an die eingangs erwähnten Größen, aber weitere lassen sich hinzufügen. SUFFOCATION beispielsweise.Jeder wird seine eigenen Einflüssen entdecken.
War der erste Durchgang von "Above All Else" noch etwas lahm bzw enttäuschend ( was wohl an meinen recht hochgesteckten Erwartungen gelegen haben mag ), so hat das Album mit jeder weiteren Runde noch mehr aufgedreht. Genau wie ihre Labelkollegen von DEHUMAN REIGN oder SKELETAL REMAINS lassen die Jungs aus Los Angeles den US - Death Metal in seiner vollen Blüte wiederauferstehen. "Above All Else" bietet alte Schule ohne den derzeit beliebten Rumpelfaktor. Stell Dir die Scheibe ins Regal zwischen all die Klassiker der genannten Bands und keine Sau wird merken, daß sie nicht aus den Frühneunzigern stammt. Allein diese Tatsache ist meiner Meinung nach schon genug Auszeichnug für eine Band.
Sicher werden Fans der heutigen "Kompressor" - Death Metal Bands und deren blitzblank polierten Sachen wenig Freude an DEROGATORY haben; jeder, der aber mit dem Genre Death Metal von Anfang an in Berührung gekommen ist, es lieben gelernt hat und vielleicht soagar mit ihm aufgewachsen ist, wird mit "Above All Else" sehr gut bedient. Ein rundum gelungenes Debüt. Ich persönlich höre das Teil echt gerne und viel.
Wie auf dem Coverfoto zu sehen, ist FDA wiederum bemüht, dem leidenschaftlichen Fan etwas zu bieten. Die limitierte LP - Version in schickem gelb/schwarz marmoriertem Transparentvinyl läßt das Sammlerherzchen hüpfen ( für Vorbesteller gibt es auch ein sehr fair kalkuliertes CD/LP-Bundle

Sehr schönes Review. Freut mich,daß die Scheibe Anklang findet.Im RH hat man die Scheibe mit 5 Punkten abgefertigt... nja, Geschmackssache,da landet auch DEBAUCHERY auf den Dynamitseiten,höhö.Ich mag DEROGATORY jedenfalls gern.
