Review:  Desaster - Live in Bamberg

The legendary German group of thrash / black metal Desaster releases their second live album, this time on a double CD with a beautiful cover by Axel Hermann. The reason for the release "Live in Bamberg" is the 25th Anniversary of the band that after 7 full-lengths and various splits and EPs continues captivating and carrying great pride for the flag of heavy metal. Few bands are as authentic as Desaster in the matter of the members really being heavy metal, this shines through on stage, in the lyrics and even in a simple conversation with their guitarist and founder Infernal. Here in these 23 tracks we have what we would expect from a live album of this band: analog, raw and dirty, with no trace of fixes in the studio, but a recording a little more refined and greater clarity in the instruments than their first live release "Brazilian Blitzkrieg Blasphemies", still the fury is the same. The set includes songs from throughout their career with emphasis on the latest release "The Arts of Destruction" and on the classic "Hellfire's Dominion" and a Slayer cover, perhaps an unnecessary one. What also draws attention is the number of guests invited to play with the band, which includes ex-members, guests musicians and even friends who had some relation with the band throughout its history. It’s impossible not to get excited over anthems such as Teutonic Steel and In the Winter Battle, the album is full of fantastic riffs coming straight from hell, an old school sound with pure spontaneity, something the band carries from the beginning, long before the present revival of thrash and its style.
As Desaster’s philosophy says: Bang or be Banged!

Como sua filosofia diz, Bang of be Banged!
