Interview with SAVAGE MESSIAH
German version above / Deutsche Version siehe oben:
The London based newcomer Thrash Metal Band SAVAGE
MESSIAH, recently inked a deal with the well-known label Candlelight
Records. This fact, and their first album “Spitting Venom” were reason
enough to interview, Sash, the Bassist of the band, in a pub in London.
HIO-Pit: People compare you to known bands such as Testament,
Judas Priest and Arch Enemy.
How do you feel about it, to be compared to such known bands?
Sash: It’s always nice to be compared to
such known bands, and they had an influence on Savage Messiah, indeed.
Testament were trendsetter back in the day and that was a big influence
on us, Judas also had a big musical influence on the band, also due to
the fact that two of our member are from Birmingham.
You can slightly hear some Arch Enemy there as well, but it wasn’t an
influence in particular, therefore “Death” who nobody named before,
among our influences, but you will definitely hear it on our new album.
HIO-Pit:
“Spitting venom” just got good reviews/criticism. Can you tell me,
how many albums did you sell of this particular album?
Sash: We sold about 1.800 of 2000. Myspace
was a major influence for promoting this album.
Maybe Candlelight will re-issue this album one day.
HIO-Pit: Dave Silver took some of the material
from his earlier band “Headless Cross” and brought it out on “Spitting
Venom”. How is it going to be on the new album:
Sash: The new album will be purely Savage
Messiah, no influence from the past.
HIO-Pit: How is the new Album going to be, can
you reveal some details?
Sash: It’s composed of 9 Tracks and will
very much sound like Testament/Death/Judas Priest .You will definitely
hear some progressive Thrash, but despise the power of the new album,
you will also hear slow parts. Despise the line-up change , you will
recognize Savage Messiah. Everybody who likes “Spitting Venom” will love
the new album.
We have an album title, which I’m not going to reveal at this date. The
recordings are going to be done coming Thursday ( 5th March 2009 )
HIO-Pit: You were working with Chris
Tsangarides on the new album, who also worked with bands like Judas
priest, Black Sabbath and Burce Dickinson. What was the reason that you
had chosen Chris for this album?
Sash: Well, we just wrote to him, and asked
him if he would be interested in recording our stuff, he agreed and
everything kicked off. We are very proud, that we can work with him, and
he was the perfect man we needed for this job.
HIO-Pit: Will there be a tour for the upcoming
album, and will you ever leave the island?
Sash: We’ll definitely go on tour within UK
and Europe and hopefully U.S pretty soon.
HIO-Pit: You just inked a deal with the known
label “ Candlelight Records”. What is going to change for you guys?
Sash: First of all they take a massive
workload of our hands. Promotion will be much bigger and therefore we’ll
be more known. Additionally, due to Candlelight Records we have the
possibility to Tour the E.U.
HIO-Pit: You also played an unplugged set.
Whose idea was it, and how was the outcome?
Sash: At this point I wasn’t involved in
the band, but according to Dave the crowd liked it, but didn’t have an
influence on the promotion. They just wanted to try something different.
HIO-Pit: Now the last question: Musicians of
London based bands are often playing in more than one band. How is it
with Savage Messiah?
Sash: I do have a solo-project which is
more Blackend/Thrash, and I will work on it as soon as we are out of the
studio with Savage Messiah. The project is existing for 2 years now and
was named “ Attakk”. All the other lads of Savage Messiah, are just
playing for Savage exclusively.
